Cape
Cod RestaurantsThe
following recommendations are highly personal and not subject to any outside influence.
We didn't sell advertising space here!! If a restaurant isn't listed here, either
we've never been there or we went and didn't like it. We've opted for the philosophy
that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. We
wanted this information to reflect our experience of living on the Cape. Eating
out on the Cape is a sport like going to yardsales. |

We recommend
a special magazine, Edible
Cape Cod, that promotes the abundance of local foods in the Cape Cod area
and its surrounding communities. Edible
Cape Cod is intended for those who are interested in: - Eating
delicious, locally grown, seasonal foods
- Getting
to know the people who grow, produce, cook and sell those foods
- Learning
more about what's available on the Cape and Islands in terms of great dining,
day trips, food events, and festivals; great books to read; and great products
to try

Brewster
Fish House Restaurant 896-7867,
Route 6A. For lunch and dinner. The lobster bisque is the best soup on Cape Cod!
Always crowded; call ahead. My personal favorite. Chillingsworth 896
3640, www.chillingsworth.com,
Route 6A. There really
are two restaurants here. The Bistro is excellent but crowded. The main dining
room was a Cape Cod original a la francaise, but now there are many other fine
dining spots throughout the Cape. It's never been the same for me since our soup
course was served in coffee cups instead of proper bouillon cups. And chipped
dishes, too!! Seedy setting, exquisite cuisine. Vive la France! The
Brewster General Store Our
favorite place for a cup of coffee or cider and a donut after church on Sunday. Setucket
Farms Great
take-out sandwiches and treats for a picnic at a nearby bay beach. Beautiful looking,
and they even grow some of the items they sell. |

Oyster Company Home
of the award winning Quivet Neck Oysters, voted best tasting oyster at the WOMR
Oyster Festival (they beat the Wellfleets!) Treat
yourself to your own taste test! They'll
shuck a plate of delicious local and New England varieties, including their own
Quivets (and yes, you can have some wonderful Wellfleets too!) The
Oyster Company 202 Depot Street Dennisport, MA 02639 (at Rt 28 and Depot, next
to the "Egg and I" restaurant) Dinner
Wednesday- Sunday 508-398-4600 Grumpy's Great
breakfast, huge portions, fast service and wonderful homemade hash. This is the
"best" breakfast place on the Cape. From a variety of fresh muffins
to Eggs Benedict you cannot go wrong. 1408 Route 6A; 385-2911. Back to top |
| Hyannis Misaki A
hidden gem! This inauspicious "dive" certainly exceeds expectations.
If you love sushi, this is the place. Fresh fish at bargain prices will keep you
coming back for more. Make reservations or be prepared to wait on weekends due
to the limited seating and sometimes slow service.

| Harwich Andale Strictly
authentic Mexican food in a tiny restaurant near us. Buca's
Tuscan Roadhouse Popular
restaurant, which is run like a well-oiled machine (olive oil, of course!) I love
all the salads and pasta dishes. The servings are huge, so you'll have lunch for
tomorrow. It is hard to get a reservation on weekends. Seats at the bar are fine
for one or two people. Located at the intersection of Route 28 and Depot Rd/Uncle
Venies Rd., South Harwich. Phone: 432-6900 George's
Pizza 564 Route 28. At Cross
St. Pizza and Greek salad to go, or they'll deliver. Greeks rule pizza on the
Cape, and it all started with George. 508-432-3144 Cape
Sea Grille Elegant
and delicious dining, but I wish the tables weren't so close together. Harwich
Port House of Pizza 432-1047,
737 Route 28, by Saquatucket Harbor: Famous for calzones, which taste best when
well done (in our opinion.)

| Wellfleet Wicked
Oyster Very
best blueberry muffins on all Cape Cod. The menu features oysters, naturally,
but also comfort food like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. This winter's dinners
featured a wonderful concoction of root veggies that I never got tired of. Open
for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 50 Main Street, 508-349-3455 |

cuisine and ambiance - refreshingly different and relaxing.
Appetizers and entrees cover a wide variety of tastes
and are packed with an assortment of flavorful sauces.
The sushi, however, is OK at best. 362-5522; 157 Route
6A.

Captain
Linnell House White
linen tablecloth dining in an old mansion. The wisteria vines over the building's
facade are enchanting. Land
Ho! The
perfect pub for a burger lunch any time of year. We think it is too crowded at
night. | |

| Chatham The
Squire Lunch
or dinner on the restaurant side is always dependable and popular. The bar scene
brings together an eclectic group of folks enjoying a cold beer, listening to
live bands, and enjoying a great cup of Chowder. The
Impudent Oyster Great
soups, and you'll never be disappointed with anything else on the menu. If you’re
in a more informal mood sit at the bar and enjoy a heaping plate of mussels, fresh
baked bread, and sip on a glass of wine. Watch out in the summer as it can get
very crowded. Pate's Where's
the beef? At Pate's. Not for vegetarians. And if you order dessert, you are overeating. Asian
Eatery When
only real Chinese will do!!! Love that ginger!! Chatham
Bars Inn
A
drink on the verandah on a summer's eve or a table with
a water view any time of year - who cares about the conventional
menu! You go here for the decor, including deluxe, bordering
on the snooty, service. In season, there's a dress code
for people not staying at the hotel, but most guests are
at the hotel, so you might feel overdressed.

Provincetown
Ross's
Grille The
view! The food! Informal, but excellent. Cape
Sushi Sushi,
Sushi, Sushi! This hideaway tucked outside Clem & Ursey's is a true down to
earth Cape treat. Fabulous Sashimi, Sushi, & Unique rolls at this quaint outside
sushi bar hit the spot. Andrew Sewler, the owner, trained at many of the fine
Japanese restaurants in NYC and will not disappoint. On appearances, Authentic
Japanese it is not. These twenty something Americans serve up some amazing grub
and with a touch of his assistants Tom's humor it is more than worth the trip.
If you are there
in the afternoon be sure to try Clem & Ursey's 1/2 priced raw bar from 3-5.
The warmed Alaskan King Crab in Garlic, Lemon, Butter & Lively, bright atmosphere
are sure to please. From Seafood to BBQ, everything is recommended. 85
