Places
To Eat
The
following recommendations are highly personal and not
subject to any outside influence. We didn't sell advertising
space here!! If a restaurant isn't listed here, either
we've never been there or we went and didn't like it.
We've opted for the philosophy that if you don't have
something nice to say, don't say anything.
We wanted this information to reflect our experience of
living on the Cape. Eating out here is a minor sport,
like yardsailing.

|
| Harwich
Ay,
Caramba!
Strictly
authentic Mexican food in a tiny restaurant near us.
George's
Pizza
432-3144,
564 Route 28. At Cross St. Pizza and Greek salad to go,
or they'll deliver. Greeks rule pizza on the Cape, and
it all started with George.
L'Alouette
You'll
think you are in the French countryside for the pride
and talent of these restaurateurs. Great value. A must!!
Cape
Sea Grille
Elegant
and delicious dining, but I wish the tables weren't so
close together.
Harwichport
House of Pizza
432-1047,
737 Route 28, by Saquatucket Harbor: Famous for calzones,
which taste best when well done (in our opinion.)

Brewster
Brewster
Fish House Restaurant
896-7867,
Route 6A. For lunch and dinner. The lobster bisque is
the best soup on Cape Cod! Always crowded; call ahead.
My personal favorite.
Chillingsworth
896 3640, www.chillingsworth.com,
Route 6A.
There really are two restaurants here.
The Bistro is excellent but crowded. The main dining room
was a Cape Cod original a la francaise, but now there
are many other fine dining spots throughout the Cape.
It's never been the same for me since our soup course
was served in coffee cups instead of proper bouillon cups.
And chipped dishes, too!! Seedy setting, exquisite cuisine.
Vive la France!
Beechcroft
Inn and English Tea Room
896-9534,
www.beechcroftinn.com,
1360 Route 6A. English high tea! Hyacinth Bucket would
approve!
The
Brewster General Store
Our
favorite place for a cup of coffee or cider and a donut
after church on Sunday.
Cafe
Al Fresco
A
treat for breakfast or lunch, indoors or out. Where else
can you get capers in your Eggs Crostini? The prices for
breakfast are a real bargain, and we enjoy the continental
twist to the menu.
Setucket
Farms
Great
take-out sandwiches and treats for a picnic at a nearby
bay beach. Beautiful looking, and they even grow some
of the items they sell.

Dennis
The
Red Pheasant Inn
Many
wonderful evenings here enjoying luscious cuisine, well
served in a charming environment. Excellent wine list.
Artistry everywhere.
Contrast
385
9100, 605 Route 6A, Dennis Village. Bistro food in a stylish
setting. A feast for the eyes!

Yarmouth
Jack's
Outback
Off
of Route 6A somewhere in Yarmouthport, one quarter of
a mile west of the Parnassus Book Service, near a decorator
shop and Inaho, in back of some stores. Ask someone. Everyone
knows this place.
Jack's
Outback: a parlor for pessimists; probably the worst restaurant
on the east coast with prices to match and rude employees;
not worth trying to find in spite of the Edward Gorey
art. Stay home; the lines are too long and parking's a
bitch.
We've
been putting up with its great food and good prices for
20 years, and it never changes.
Inaho
362-5522;
157 Route 6A. Japanese cuisine and ambiance - refreshingly
different and relaxing. It's not all raw, so not everyone
has to experience sushi.

Orleans
Captain
Linnell House
White
linen tablecloth dining in an old mansion. The wisteria
vines over the building's facade are enchanting.
Land
Ho!
The
perfect pub for a burger lunch any time of year. We think
it is too crowded at night.

Chatham
The
Squire
Lunch
or dinner on the restaurant side is always dependable
and popular.
The
Impudent Oyster
Great
soups, and you'll never be disappointed with anything
else on the menu. But don't go if it is crowded.
Pate's
Where's
the beef? At Pate's. Not for vegetarians. And if you order
dessert, you are overeating.
Chatham
Provisions
432-7126
www.chathamprovisions.com,
1403 Old Queen Anne Road at Route 137. Quick stop deli
and bakery. Gen X hits Cape Cod, and just in time! We
dream about the almond croissants.
Luscious
Louie's
Take
out bakery and coffee shop. Pastry beyond all expectations!
Asian
Eatery
When
only real Chinese will do!!! Love that ginger!!
Chatham
Bars Inn
A
drink on the verandah on a summer's eve or a table with
a waterview any time of year - who cares about the conventional
menu! You go here for the decor, including deluxe, bordering
on the snooty, service. In season, there's a dress code
for people not staying at the hotel, but most guests are
at the hotel, so you might feel overdressed.

Provincetown
Ross's
Grille
The
view! The food! Informal, but excellent.
